Dance and Gymnastics Performance Group in Burlington
Introduction
Cogent Rehab’s Dance and Gymnastics Performance Group is designed for dancers, gymnasts, cheer athletes, and other young movers who want to build stronger balance, body control, jump and landing mechanics, lower-body strength, posture, active mobility, and movement confidence.
This group is physiotherapist-led and built around the shared movement demands seen across dance and gymnastics-related activities.
Who This Group Is For
This program may be a good fit for:
-
dancers
-
gymnasts
-
cheer athletes
-
acro athletes
-
youth with strong movement-control demands in their activity
-
athletes who want better body awareness, balance, and control
This group is appropriate for athletes who are generally participating in sport and can tolerate supervised group activity. Some athletes with current pain, a recent injury, or more complex issues may be better suited for an individual assessment first.
What We Focus On
Balance and Body Awareness
The program includes exercises and tasks that help athletes develop steadier posture, stronger single-leg control, and more precise body awareness.
Jumping and Landing Mechanics
Dancers and gymnasts often need repeated control through take-off, landing, and recovery. We focus on quiet, organized, and confident landings.
Lower-Body Strength
Support strength matters for jumping, transitions, holds, and sustained movement quality.
Core and Trunk Control
We build trunk control to support posture, line, stability, and better movement organization.
Active Mobility
This group focuses on usable mobility with control rather than passive stretching alone.
Typical Session Structure
Each session follows a structured 60-minute format:
-
5 minutes: arrival, check-in, and briefing
-
8 minutes: group warm-up
-
40 minutes: 5-station circuit completed in pairs
-
5 minutes: short whole-group finisher
-
2 minutes: wrap-up and home focus
This structure keeps the group organized, progressive, and easy for athletes to follow week to week.

What Makes This Group Unique
This group supports young movers who may be flexible but need better control, or athletes who are expressive and active but need stronger support strength, landing organization, or movement confidence.
Because it is physiotherapist-led, it can also be a useful option for athletes with previous concerns such as:
-
ankle instability
-
knee discomfort
-
overuse complaints
-
low back pain
-
balance difficulty
-
return-to-sport concerns after previous injury
Who May Benefit from an Add-on Assessment
Some overhead athletes may benefit from a 30-minute movement screen or 60-minute physiotherapy assessment before starting, especially if they have:
-
recurrent dislocations/subluxations
-
shoulder pain
-
neck pain
-
previous muscle strains
-
reduced confidence with throwing, catching or hitting
-
current or recurring discomfort during overhead sports
