Yes — at Cogent Rehab in Burlington, many of our patients have their treatments covered by insurance. If you have extended health benefits through your employer or a family member, or if you were involved in a motor vehicle accident, there is a strong likelihood that your care will be covered. **Extended Health Benefits** - Review the details of your coverage in your Extended Health Manual or check with your Human Resources department. Coverage varies depending on the plan, so confirming your eligibility is important. **Direct Billing for Your Convenience** - We can bill most major insurance companies directly on your behalf. This means less paperwork and faster access to care. **If Coverage Is Declined** - If, for any reason, your insurance provider does not approve the claim, you will be responsible for paying us directly. You can then seek reimbursement from your insurance provider. **Tip:** Patients injured in motor vehicle accidents (MVA) in Ontario may also qualify for treatment under auto insurance benefits (MIG and catastrophic guidelines). Our team can guide you through the process and help coordinate the necessary paperwork.
At Cogent Physical Rehabilitation Center in Burlington, we do not provide physiotherapy services covered under OHIP.
Who Qualifies for OHIP-Covered Physiotherapy?
OHIP-funded physiotherapy is available only at designated OHIP clinics for patients who meet specific eligibility criteria:
Individuals under 18 years of age
Individuals 65 years of age or older
Patients who have had a related overnight hospital stay in Ontario and require physiotherapy for recovery
Where Can You Access OHIP Physiotherapy?
If you qualify, you must attend a clinic specifically designated by OHIP to provide these services. These clinics are funded by the Ontario government to serve patients under the program.
How We Can Help
While we are not an OHIP-funded clinic, we offer private, extended health benefits, WSIB, and motor vehicle accident (MVA) insurance coverage options for physiotherapy. This allows us to provide personalized, evidence-based care without the wait times often associated with OHIP programs.
If you’re unsure whether you qualify for OHIP coverage or would like to explore private physiotherapy options, contact our clinic. We’ll be happy to guide you toward the best care for your needs.

No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to book a physiotherapy appointment at Cogent Physical Rehabilitation Center in Burlington. Patients can self-refer and begin treatment right away.
However, it’s important to check the details of your extended health benefits plan. While many insurance providers allow direct access to physiotherapy, some health plans may require a physician’s referral before they will reimburse treatment costs.

At Cogent Rehab, we make the process as smooth as possible so you can start your recovery without delay.
