Our Story:
Built on Clinical Experience, Research, and Patient-Centred Care
Cogent Physical Rehabilitation Center was created to offer a different kind of physiotherapy experience in Burlington: one that combines advanced clinical reasoning, research-informed care, and one-on-one treatment for people with pain, injury, dizziness, neurological conditions, post-surgical recovery needs, sports injuries, and complex rehabilitation challenges.
At Cogent Rehab, the focus is not simply on reducing symptoms. The goal is to understand the person, identify the movement and functional problems behind the condition, and build a practical treatment plan that helps each patient move better, recover with confidence, and return to meaningful activity.
Led by Folarin Babatunde, PT, PhD, with approximately 25 years of clinical, academic, and research experience, Cogent Rehab brings hospital-level rehabilitation knowledge into a personalized community clinic setting.
The Beginning of Cogent Rehab
Cogent Rehab was founded by Folarin Babatunde, PT, PhD, a physiotherapist, clinician, educator, and rehabilitation researcher. His career began in 2001 after graduating from the University of Ibadan’s physiotherapy program, followed by advanced postgraduate training in orthopaedic physiotherapy, sports and exercise medicine, and rehabilitation science.
Over the years, his clinical work has included orthopaedic and sports injuries, neurological rehabilitation, amputee rehabilitation, trauma, burns, chronic pain, post-surgical rehabilitation, and complex mobility problems. His experience across hospital, university, community, and private practice settings shaped a clear belief: effective rehabilitation should be individualized, functional, evidence-informed, and grounded in careful assessment.
Why Cogent Rehab Was Created
After years of working in hospital rehabilitation, university teaching, research, and private practice, Folarin saw a common problem: many patients needed more than a quick treatment session or a general exercise sheet. People recovering from complex injuries, neurological conditions, concussion, dizziness, surgery, chronic pain, or mobility loss often needed time, clinical reasoning, education, and a clear plan.
Cogent Rehab was created to meet that need.
The clinic was designed to provide one-on-one physiotherapy with a strong emphasis on assessment, movement analysis, patient education, progressive exercise, hands-on care where appropriate, and practical strategies that help patients function better in daily life, work, sport, and community mobility.
What Makes Cogent Rehab Different
At Cogent Rehab, patients receive care that is thoughtful, individualized, and goal-focused. Treatment may include detailed assessment, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neurological rehabilitation principles, balance and gait training, vestibular rehabilitation, concussion management, sports movement analysis, biofeedback, splinting, education, and return-to-function planning.
The common thread is clinical reasoning. Every treatment plan is built around the patient’s specific condition, goals, tolerance, lifestyle, and stage of recovery.
Whether you are dealing with pain, dizziness, concussion, neurological symptoms, post-surgical recovery, a sports injury, balance problems, or a more complex rehabilitation need, Cogent Rehab is here to help you move forward with a clear plan.
