Soccer Performance Group in Burlington

Introduction

Cogent Rehab’s Soccer Performance Group is a physiotherapist-led summer program for young soccer players who want to improve movement quality, confidence, agility, lower-body control, and overall athletic readiness for the field.

This group is designed for active kids and teens who want more than just general fitness. Sessions focus on the movement demands that matter in soccer, including landing, cutting, deceleration, balance, body control, and acceleration mechanics. The goal is to help young athletes move better, build stronger foundations, and feel more confident in training and competition.

Who This Group Is For

This program may be a good fit for:

  • soccer players preparing for the season

  • athletes who want to improve agility and change of direction

  • players who need better landing and deceleration control

  • athletes who want stronger lower-body balance and confidence

  • youth returning to structured training after time away from sport

  • players who want a more guided, movement-focused summer program

This group is appropriate for athletes who are generally participating in sport and can tolerate supervised group activity. Some athletes with current pain, a recent injury, or more complex issues may be better suited for an individual assessment first.

What We Focus On

Agility and Change of Direction
Soccer demands repeated acceleration, deceleration, cutting, repositioning, and quick directional shifts. We work on movement patterns that support cleaner and more efficient direction changes.

Landing and Deceleration Control
Many youth athletes move quickly but struggle to stop well. This group helps athletes improve control when landing, planting, and absorbing force.

Lower-Body Strength and Stability
We build foundational strength for the hips, thighs, calves, and trunk to support better control during soccer-specific movement.

Balance and Body Control
Single-leg stability, trunk control, and foot position all matter in soccer. We use exercises and drills to improve balance under movement demand.

Movement Confidence
A major goal is to help athletes feel more confident moving, cutting, stopping, and transitioning in sport.

Typical Session Structure

Each session follows a structured 60-minute format:

  • 5 minutes: arrival, check-in, and briefing

  • 8 minutes: group warm-up

  • 40 minutes: 5-station circuit completed in pairs

  • 5 minutes: short whole-group finisher

  • 2 minutes: wrap-up and home focus

This structure keeps the group organized, progressive, and easy for athletes to follow week to week.

What Makes this Different From a Generic Training Class

This is not just a conditioning group. It is a physiotherapist-led program with attention to:

  • anatomy of soccer

  • movement quality

  • progressive loading

  • age-appropriate development

  • body control

  • confidence after previous injury or movement difficulty

  • more thoughtful progression than a typical high-volume sports camp

Who May Benefit from an Add-on Assessment

Some soccer athletes may benefit from a 30-minute movement screen or 60-minute physiotherapy assessment before starting, especially if they have:

  • repeated ankle sprains

  • knee pain

  • reduced confidence with cutting or landing
